Who cannot be happy to see Juan Martin del Potro playing big time tennis again? After one surgery on his right wrist and three on his left, and after nearly retiring from the sport a year ago, the Argentine is once again a factor on the pro tennis courts, and fans love it.
Last night, even against an American Steve Johnson, del Potro had support from the crowd.
“I feel that for sure,” del Potro said of the fans. “The people with me are making crazy, and I cannot believe that. I think they are proud to see me playing tennis again after all my surgeries. They know what has been through to get here to come back on tennis.
“That’s amazing when I get into the court and the people likes just to see me. I’m having great days at the US Open.”
“It’s amazing for me having this love from there. I just want to show my tennis as I did in the past. And hopefully I can go far to keep winning matches.”
Del Potro is making his first appearance at the US Open since 2013 when he lost to Lleyton Hewitt. The 2009 winner will be back in action Saturday against David Ferrer who just needed five sets to win.
