Nick Kyrgios will bid for a third career title Sunday in Tokyo after the Australian dispatched Gael Monfils 6-4, 6-4.

“It was an unbelievable match, we both played very well,” Kyrgios said. “The crowd loved it and we both had a lot of fun out there. Not many people on tour can hit the type of shots Gael can. He’s an unbelievable entertainer and athlete. We play different games. I rely on my serve more, but I want to work to become as athletic as he is and also be an entertainer like him.”

Kyrgios will meet David Goffin who was a 7-5, 6-4 winner over former US Open champion Marin Cilic.

“I didn’t play my best tennis at the beginning of the week, but match by match I was able to find my rhythm,” Goffin said. “I was nervous in the first round against Nishioka, who played a good match. Today I was playing much better. It’s a small mental thing, but once you are comfortable and playing freely, it makes a big difference on the court.”

Kyrgios and Goffin have never met. Both are seeking their third career titles.

Margot Says:

Well done “Naughty Nick.” Didn’t play nearly as well against Goffin as he had done previously, but knuckled down and won.
No 11 and knocking on the door of the top 10 now. C’mon! Tennis needs you.

AndyMira Says:

Congrats to nick for his 3rd titles..Despite his tantrum on court,i like his cool celebration and not too overjoyed..Well done Nick..And credits to David who always so cool and start to insert himself as a very promising young player for the future..They both are,actually..

Harry Freeman Says:

Kyrgios showcased his talents quite well in this final. Goffin could easily have come back. For sure it was a well played matched and both men showed respect for the game in this match.

J-Kath Says:

Nick can do it – but only when he likes. I like him tantrums and all. David is a great little guy but he’ll not go much further than he’s at now – he’s mid twenties already. Sorri AM – it’s maybe something to do with his lack of height.

Willow Says:

Well done NK, its not that i dislike him as such, as theres nothing wrong with showing personality, and i do like a bad boy ;-P, but just dont care for the personal attacks on other players, if he winds his neck in and STFU then theres alot of potential and talent no doubt about it ….

AndyMira Says:

That’s alright JK..no prob..I respect and like David very much because despite his lack of height and small stature,he’s got a game to rattle his opponent..Who knows, maybe he’s a late bloomer like Stan and will win a slam one day..he rarely injured and that’s an advantage for him as well..
