Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal Lead Laver Cup Exo Teams
It’s Roger Federer’s event, so of course he’s going to play the inagural Laver Cup next month in Prague. Also joining are Rafael Nadal, Alexander Zverev, Dominic Thiem, Marin Cilic and Tomas Berdych for the European Team.
“Team World” consists of Milos Raonic, Juan Martin del Potro, John Isner, Sam Querrey, Jack Sock and Denis Shapovalov.
Old rivals Bjorn Borg will captain the European team while John McEnroe is at the helm of the World team.
“I’m very excited that Juan Martin del Potro and Denis Shapovalov will be part of Team World to compete for the first Laver Cup,” McEnroe said.
“We all know that we face a tremendous opposition in Team Europe but I believe our players will prove that our team is up for the challenge.”
Each day four matches are played – three singles and a doubles. Both singles and doubles will be best of three sets with ad scoring. In the event of split sets, the 3rd set will be be a 10 point match tie break. Each player will play at least one singles match during the three days.
Each match win will be worth one point on Friday, two points on Saturday, and three points on Sunday. The first team to reach 13 points out of a total 24 points available will win the Laver Cup.
The event, run in part by Federer’s management company Team 8, will take place at the O2 arena in Prague from September 22-24, 2017.
