Bad news for Stan Wawrinka. The 3-time Grand Slam champion still seems to be struggling with his surgically repaired left knee. Today in Marseille, because of the injury Wawrinka had to pull out of the event retiring to 23-year-old Ilya Ivashka down 6-4, 1-1.

“Practice went well during the last two days, but a match is always different. It’s obviously difficult, but I need to focus on the positive things each day and keep working hard,” Wawrinka said.

Since returning in Australia, Wawrinka is just 3-4 with all 4 losses to players outside the Top 95. He’s now lost his last three matches including today to the 193rd-ranked qualifier.

The 32-year-old is ranked down to No. 13 and has Indian Wells final points coming off next month.
