Djokovic Needs 3 In Doha, Wawrinka Wins Again

Novak Djokovic upped his mark to 37-3 in last 40, but he had to do it the hard way today in Doha.

The 2-time champions dropped the first set to Hungarian Marton Fucsovics before getting on top of the Hungarian for a 4-6, 6-4, 6-1 win.

“He was a better player for two sets and, no doubt, I managed to break his resistance towards the end of the second set,” said Djokovic who improved to 14-1 at the event. “I just think he dropped his level a little bit, and I managed to get on top of him.


“He did surprise me with his level. It was very high throughout the two sets. I must say that he was the one that was dictating the play. He was really great in defense. [He had] a very good serve, had great tactics, and he managed to get very close to the win.”

Next for Novak in the quarterfinals is Nikoloz Basilashvili who eliminated 2018 finalist Andrey Rublev.

2008 finalist Stan Wawrinka also continued to shine in the new year, beating Nicolas Jarry 6-4, 7-6(3). He now meet No. 7 seed Roberto Bautista Agut.

Tomas Berdych was also a winner beating Fernando Verdasco 4-6, 6-3, 7-5 along with
