Pouille To Miss Australian Open Due To Elbow
Lucas Pouille won’t have an opportunity to defend his semifinal run at the Australian Open a year ago as the Frenchmen withdrew from Melbourne due to an elbow injury.
The 25-year-old was one the surprises at the 2018 Australian after beating Borna Coric and Milos Raonic.
“Since October 9, we have put everything in place to be ready for the start of the year,” Pouille posted in a tweet. “We followed all the protocols given by the doctors but it was not enough. I am extremely disappointed and sad to miss the start of the year. My goal is to be 100% competitive as quickly as possible.”
The 22nd-ranked Pouille will drop outside of the Top 50 once his January points fall off.
