Andy Murray confirmed his withdrawal from the Cologne 2 event Sunday on Facebook due to lingering pelvic tendonitis. The Former No. 1 was slated to face Danilo Petrovic in his opener.

“I’ve been trying to deal with it in training, and in the matches, and unfortunately after my match here this week it’s flared up again,” he said on Facebook Video.

“I’ve been practicing the last few days and trying to manage it, but after playing some points today, I decided it was not going to be good enough to play.”

The 33-year-old did not commit to a return date. Murray, who lost in the first round of Cologne 1 last week, could play the Paris Masters in two weeks and then possibly Sofia. Otherwise, his 2020 season would be over.

Hayley Says:

Poor Andy! It must be a nightmare for him, not knowing how things will pan-out. He’s trying so hard and taking a few steps forward and then 10 steps back. The problem with this kind of thing is that no one knows when they are close to a breakthrough or not – and whether to keep going or not. He’s a true warrior and I trust that fate will be a little kinder to him and allow him to wind-down his career when he is ready, on his own terms.
Meanwhile, he deserves another shot at things next year….

Hayley: As a dedicated Andy fan (& a Scot) – am just happy Andy had a good innings during his tennis career. As he has always loved tennis and still does, he’ll keep playing for a wee while – but think he already knows that he’s not going to reach the “giddy heights” again.
