Kyrgios v Opelka Kick Off Canadian Open Masters Monday
The first Masters of the summer begins today across two cities in Canada. The men will be in Toronto while the women further in Montreal.
Due to COVID, restrictions and scheduling, both fields are light. The men will feature just 5 of the Top 10 with Rafael Nadal, Daniil Medvedev and Stefanos Tsitsipas. The same for the women with 5 of the Top 10 with Aryna Sabalenka the lone Top 4 entrant — Naomi Osaka, Ash Barty and Sofia Kenin all skipped.
Today, action begins in Toronto with Marin Cilic, Fabio Fognini and in the evening Nick Kyrgios meets the American giant Reilly Opelka. Kyrgios, ranked No. 80, had to get a wildcard for entry into the event.
In Montreal, Madison Keys and Leylah Fernandez are on court. Maria Sakkari, Karolina Muchova, Jelena Ostapenko and Paula Badosa.
The tournament was not held in 2020 due to the pandemic.
