Big Men Reign At New York Open, Kyrgios Withdraws, Sock Returns
Top draw Nick Kyrgios withdrew from the New York due to a shoulder, but the tournament has a lot of big draws and big men.
Many of the giants of the game will assemble at the Nassau Coliseum on Long Island including top two seeds John Isner and Milos Raonic, plus Ivo Karlovic, 2018 winner Kevin Anderson and defending champion Reilly Opelka.
Isner could meet Karlovic in the second round and then potentially Australian Open quarterfinalist Tennys Sandgren in the final eight.
Also in the draw, Jack Sock grabbed a wildcard. Sock was a former Top 10 player but is now unranked in singles after losing all eight matches last year.
The 27-year-old Sock will open against Marcus Giron.
This will be the third year the event is held in New York after a long run in Memphis.
Last year, Opelka edged surprise finalist Brayden Schnur in the final.
