Nadal, Medvedev, Tsitsipas Tonight In Acapulco; Berrettini Injured, Zverev Defaulted
With Alexander Zverev defaulted from Acapulco, the tournament still has plenty of star power, and tonight that will be on full displayer with Rafael Nadal, Daniil Medvedev and Stefanos Tsitsipas all playing in succession.
Nadal opened play last night keeping his 2022 record perfect with a comfortable win over lucky loser Denis Kudla 6-3, 6-2.
“It has been a positive match. I think I started playing well, a good victory in straight sets. That’s always very positive for the confidence,” said Nadal who is 11-0 on the year. “I think I played a very solid match for the first day. Of course there are a couple of things that I can do better, but in general terms, I played well so I can’t complain at all.”
Next up will be another American lucky loser in Stefan Kozlov.
Daniil Medvedev scored a 6-3, 6-4 win over Benoit Paire, and now resumes his bid for No. 1 tonight against Pablo Andujar.
Following his 200th career win, Stefanos Tsitsipas, who made the final a year ago, is back to close the stadium session against American J.J. Wolf.
No. 5 seed Matteo Berrettini was forced to retire to Tommy Paul due to an ab injury.
