The last of the fourth round spots were filled Monday at Indian Wells, and he desert favorites got through.

The burly Matteo Berrettini rolled on upended Lloyd Harris 6-4, 7-5. The South African Harris led 5-2 in the second and held set points before Berrettini ran off five straight games.

“It means a lot,” Berrettini said told the crowd of reaching the last 16. “I like the conditions but for some reason, I have never been able to play my best tennis here. I am happy with my performance, Lloyd is a tough opponent. It feels really nice to reach the fourth round for the first time. Every year I am improving.”

Today, Berrettini will meet the surprising Miomir Kecmanovic.

American men had a mixed day finishing 2-3 with John Isner ousting Diego Schwartzman in straights and Taylor Fritz needed a final set breaker to deny Jaume Munar in three.

Andrey Rublev held off Frances Tiafoe 6-3, 6-4 to win his 11th straight. Rublev has won Marseille and Dubai coming in, and today will collide with Miami champion Hubert Hurkacz who defeated Steve Johnson.

Tommy Paul, who upset Alexander Zverev, fell to Alex De Minaur. Grigor Dimitrov was also a winner.

Today, on a full day of fourth round play, Rafael Nadal tries to go 18-0 against American big man Reilly Opelka.

Playing some of his best tennis in years, Nick Kyrgios returns against Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz will take on Gael Monfils.

“It’s going to be a tough match,” said Monfils. “He’s full of confidence, young, hitting big the balls. I just have to play my game and be there and try to find a solution.

“I’ve never played him, so it’s going to be interesting. I see him winning quite comfortable today. I haven’t seen the match. So it means that he is ready to roll. But, yeah, I hope he will find hard work for him in two days.”
