Bronzetti Rallies Past Grabher To Grab Her First Career Title In Rabat
On her third try, Lucia Bronzetti was finally able to serve out Julia Grabher and win her first career title in Rabat in a thriller 6-4, 5-7, 7-5.
With both players seeking a maiden tour title, Bronzetti was the steadier of the error-prone Grabher, but she failed to serve out the match in the second set at 5-4.
Down 3-1 in the third, Bronzetti recovered and had another chance to serve it out at 5-4, this time in the third. But she was denied.
However, Grabher’s high risk tennis cost her and Bronzetti broke and this time the 24-yera-old closed the deal in a marathon 2 hours, 48 minutes.
Bronzetti had entered the event having lost 10 straight at tour-level since the United Cup. However, she just made an ITF semifinal in Florence and the momentum carried into Rabat where she scored blowout wins over Sloane Stephens and Alycia Parks and also knocked out Wimbledon semifinalist Tatjana Maria in three sets.
Bronzetti will have her hands full at the French Open with a first rounder against Ons Jabeur.
