It was a banner week for Alexander Bublik. The unpredictable shotkmaker defeated four seeds en route to his biggest title winning Halle over Andrey Rublev 6-3, 3-6, 6-3.

“It really means the world to me,” Bublik told the ATP. “I’ve been struggling for half a year and now having this a reward, I don’t take it for granted. It was hard work. I was walking through the little hall of fame here before entering the court for the very first time against Struff [in the second round], and I was like ‘Wow, the different names, a lot of guys I’m familiar with. That would be nice maybe to have it one day’.

“But I could not even imagine that I would win this tournament, and I’m really, really happy.”

Bublik, ranked No. 48, finished with 21 aces, gave away 11 doubles, but lost only seven points on first serve.

The 26-year-old Bublik broke for 2-0 in the first and the third sets and then rode his (underhand)serve to victory.

Rublev had a chance a break point late in the third after a double fault, but failed to convert as he drops his second final in Halle and first match ever to Bublik.

Bublik captures his 2nd career title in his 8th career final. It’s Bublik’s first title since Montpellier last year. Rublev was seeking his 14th career title.
