In Halle, Germany, at the Terra Wortmann Open in semifinals action No. 3 Andrey Rublev defeated No. 8 seed Roberto Bautista Agut in straights 6-3, 6-4 to return to the Halle final.

Rublev, who fell in the 2021 Halle final to Ugo Humbert, tallied 12 aces, won 33/41 (80%) first serve points, was broken once and broke serve four times in the match.

The Spaniard grabbed the opening break to start the second but gave it back at 2-1.

Rublev is now up on is ahead of Bautista Agut 5-4 in their tour-level collisions. He’s into his 21st career final seeking his 14th career title. Tomorrow he’ll try to become the first player to win on grass, hard and clay at the ATP 500 level.

In the final, he’ll be the big favorite against Kazakhstan’s Alexander Bublik who stunned home favorite and No. 9 seed Alexander Zverev 6-3, 7-5.

Bublik, ranked No. 48, cracked 14 aces, lost only two points on first serve and break Zverev for 6-5 in the second.

In four tour-level clashes, Bublik now leads Zverev 3-1.

Bublik moves into his 8th career final looking for his 2nd career title after Montpellier last year.

“The job is not finished, there is one last match,” Bublik said to the ATP. “I am happy but I try to stay focused. I tried to play my game and i am really happy with the win today. Playing Sascha is really tough and I was a bit lucky in the key moments. When you play against a top player like Sascha, you need all the weapons to work.”

Rublev, though, has had the better of Bublik leading 3-0 in their tour-level meetings. But they haven’t met since 2020.
