Djokovic Returns, Swiatek And Gauff Begin Road To QF; US Open Day 1

The US Open gets going Monday in New York with a star-studded session including former champions Novak Djokovic, Dominic Thiem, Iga Swiatek, Sloane Stephens and other Slam winners like Elena Rybakina, Petra Kvitova, Victoria Azarenka, Jelena Ostapenko and Caroline Wozniacki who returns to Grand Slam tennis under the lights.

Swiatek opens her title defense by opening up Arthur Ashe against Sweden’s Rebecca Peterson. Then it’s American star Frances Tiafoe who made the semifinals last year before the night session which features the hot-handed Coco Gauff followed by Djokovic’s return.

The Serb, who hasn’t played in New York in two years, will begin his quest for No. 24 against Alexandre Muller.

Casper Ruud, Tommy Paul, Holger Rune, Taylor Fritz, Christopher Eubanks, Felix Auger-Aliassime and Stefanos Tsitsipas who takes on Milos Raonic are among the other men.

The women will also see play from Belinda Bencic, Danielle Collins, Jennifer Brady and Karolina Muchova.
