Novak Djokovic will have a full three days off before the Wimbledon semifinals on Friday. The Serb got a pass into the last four today after, as feared, Alex de Minaur had to withdraw with a hip injury he suffered at the end of his fourth round match against Arthur Fils on Sunday.

“Obviously not an announcement I wanted to make by any means. I am devastated to pull out due to a hip injury, a little tear of the fibre cartilage that kind of is at the end of or connects to the adductor,” De Minaur said.

“I felt a loud crack during the last three points of my match against Fils and got a scan yesterday and it confirmed that this was the injury and with a high risk of making it worse if I was to step on court.”

The 25-year-old was set to go in the biggest match of his life, facing Djokovic in his first Wimbledon quarterfinal.

In his 15th Wimbledon semifinal, Djokovic will await the winner between American No. 1 Taylor Fritz and Lorenzo Musetto. Fritz has won two of three from the Italian including a win at Wimbledon two years ago.

“The key is always going to be serving well and returning well,” Fritz said after his 0-2 comeback against Alexander Zverev. “I feel like if I do those two things well, then I like my chances.

“Luckily for me, it should hypothetically be easier to return serve than it was today in the next match. But yeah, he’s tricky. He’s been playing well. He made the finals of Queen’s.

“This will be my first quarterfinal where I’m the more experienced person in slam quarterfinals, having played Novak twice and Rafa once. Hopefully that will help me a little bit. But I know I’m going to have to play well.”

Musetti is appearing in his first Slam quarterfinal. A first Slam semifinal is on the line.

In the women’s draw, Elena Rybakina and Elina Svitolina look to return to the semifinals. The former champion Rybakina is 18-2 at Wimbledon. Svitolina seeks a third Wimbledon final four. And Jelena Ostapenko and Barbora Krejcikova meet in a match of former French winners. Ostapenko made the semifinals at Wimbledon while Krejcikova is making her debut at this stage at the club.
