The women’s Wimbledon field is down to just four players and one of them, Elena Rybakina, is the big favorite. Rybakina, the 2022 champion, will try to claim her second crown and keep the other three from taking their first title on the grass in London.

Barbora Krejcikova is the other Slam winner while Jasmine Paolini just reached the French Open final and unseeded Donna Vekic has reached her first Slam final four in her 43rd try.

Rybakina, though, has lost both meetings with Rybakina but is 2-0 in Slam semifinals. Krejcikova, a 2-time Wimbledon singles champion, is in her second Slam semifinal. They both understand the moment and the nerves.

“We played couple times,” Krejcikova said. “She’s a great player. She’s a former champion here. I mean, she knows the court. She knows how to play on grass. She’s very dangerous. She has lot of weapons.

“She knows how to play everything. She has a big weapons. On the other hand, I do have a big weapons, as well. I expect that it’s going to be a big fight.”

In the first semifinal, two longshots collide with Paolini continuing her breakout season against Vekic. The 28-year-old Paolini had never been past the second round at a Slam until this year, and now she’s ran off the final in Paris, the fourth round at the Australian and now she’s added a Wimbledon semifinal. She’s getting results on three different surfaces.

“Maybe I didn’t realize before, but my coach was telling me that I could play well here,” Paolini said. “I wasn’t believing too much. I think also the last two years I played against Kvitova first round, so it was tough to believe it.

“I felt great also in Eastbourne. I was hitting well the ball on this surface, moving well. I was repeating to myself, Okay, it’s nice to play on grass. You can play well. I didn’t expect to do a semifinals here at all.”

The tour veteran Vekic has proven to be a better grass player as she’s into her 6th semifinal on grass. But can the Croat compensate for her lack of movement and overpower the Italian?
