The men’s semifinals take center stage today at Wimbledon. Three of the four semifinalists are back for another round as Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz are one win from a second straight meeting in the Wimbledon final.

Alcaraz is on first taking on Daniil Medvedev in a rematch of their semifinal last year. Alcaraz blew out Medvedev who was eaten up in that match by the Spaniard who took advantage of Medvedev’s deep court positioning.

“I’m going to say the most difficult thing about facing Daniil, or the most special thing about him, is he can reach every ball. Well, he is like a wall. Every ball bounce back,” Alcaraz said.

“I feel like I can hit an unbelievable shot, the ball is going to bounce back. Is difficult to play thinking about that. So I going to say that’s the most special thing about Daniil.”

Medvedev has never been to a Slam final other than hard court. Can he turn make the necessary adjustment?

“Just play better,” Medvedev said of what he needs to do better. “It’s always a question, did I serve not well enough or have Carlos been amazing on the return this day last year because he won? I have to serve better. That’s still the most important thing on grass. You serve aces, you serve on the line, you’re less in trouble, and you feel better. That’s where you can put pressure on his serve.

“Then he’s a tough player. He can hit strong. He can slice. He can dropshot. He can volley. He knows how to play tennis. Just need to be at my best, like kind of how I’ve been today, and try to win.”

Djokovic will be big the favorite against first-time Grand Slam semifinalist Lorenzo Musetti. The 22-year-old Italian has won over Djokovic on clay and taken four sets off Djokovic in two French Open matches, but this is grass and this is the semifinals.

“I played him many times in different stage, even big ones like of course two times in French Open. I beated him one time in Monte-Carlo. Then I lost all the others,” Musetti said. “I have to say with Nole, after the match I always finished with a lesson. Of course, the last match was really an intense match from both players and really stressful match.

“So what I have to say, against him you are probably more stressed because he’s probably the best player ever or one of the best players ever. You walk on court with a different mentality. As I said before, I think if I play in a certain way, I could have my shot in the next round.”

Madmax Says:

Hey Everyone,

Where is everyone?

So strange that no one is commenting on the walkover by Novak.

Seems quiet from you Wogboy, you were the one who always complained about Fed and Rafa getting walkovers, and now Novak has one, you have gone schthum! I think he deserves a walkover, people have been unkind about Novak for far too long. I love watching him play, as you know, and I am hoping for a great final. No doubt Novak will breeze through to the final.

Just now watching the Alcaraz match. That boy can hit. Sorry, “Them boys can hit that there ball”.

All Out Says:

So another Djokovic Alcaraz final. This should be good. Mussetti doesn’t have the game to inconvenience Djokovic also which is just sad. Wish it was a lot more competitive

chrisford1 Says:

In his career, Novak Djokovic has made 75 Slam Appearances.
How did he fare?
QFs – 60. Or, 80% of the time.
SFs – 49. Or, 65.3 % of the time.
Finals – 37. Or, 49.3% of the time.
Trophies – Ytbd. If he loses to Carlos, he ‘only’ got the trophy 32% of the time.

That is sick!
Federer did outstanding as well, particularly before Rafa and Djokovic arrived, but a clear notch below Djokovics percentages with less competition.
After Novak and Roger, the totals and percentages drop off.

Wog Boy Says:

CF1, but Nole will never be loved like the other two?….

Van Persie Says:

2 weeks ago I was not sure that Djokovic would be able to play. He is in the final now. Amazing!
The favorite is Alcaraz, but he will also feel the pressure. let’s see how Nole will handle this. I am sure it will be a great match.

“CF1, but Nole will never be loved like the other two?….”

Eff love.
“The two superstars who are the Greatest Ever yet Love One Another” is pure 2008-2009 gay niche appeal Nike marketing.

Giles Says:

Cif. It’s all very well for you to say “Eff love” but this is exactly wot the arsehole craves. Nothing he can do to change people’s minds. He is just so hated it’s frightening!
