Young Australian star Bernard Tomic lost today to Tomas Berdych in straight sets in the Australian Open fourth round. After match, which was played on Margaret Court Arena instead of Rod Laver where he played on in his younger years, Tomic took aim at the odd scheduling by his home event.

” I spoke to a few people about (the scheduling),” Tomic said. “Lleyton as well. I think the scheduling was like ridiculous this year. Like not just from my side, but for many player’s. I don’t know who was in charge of the schedule. Really, some of the matches I saw, it was just like, Wow.

“From what I heard in the locker room, and not just myself, like the scheduling was a bit funny. I’m not going to complain from my side, but on behalf of the people I talked to, they say it as well. It’s not just me saying it. You guys have seen, as well.”

With his second Australian Open fourth round result, Tomic will improve his current ranking of No. 66, but 20 spots won’t satisfy the 22-year-old who wants to be in the Top 20.

“If I keep pushing, play a few good tournaments now in Memphis, Delray Beach, 250s, maybe win a title, and who knows, I’m inside already,” Tomic said. “So it’s something I have to work hard, make points, and keep consistent each week. If I’m playing the way I’m playing right now, keep working, in three, four months I could be inside the top 30, top 20. Just have to work and continue playing the way I’m playing.”

I don’t really understand why he thinks there was odd scheduling. Nothing strange in my view.

I’ve grown pretty immune to court scheduling issues at the Slams, but the Australian Open decisions this year have been confounding.

here’s another comment

Simona Halep has complained about the #AusOpen scheduling. Does she have a point? http://bit.ly/1sZODts

Patson Says:

Isn’t the scheduling issue raised, one way of the other, in virtually EVERY slam ? Besides, just being an Australian should not be automatic grounds for playing in Rod Laver Arena.
