ATP Finals Groups: Lone Former Champion Federer Opens Play Sunday
After a brief delay due to Boris Becker being stuck in traffic, the ATP Finals groupings were unveiled during the Chris Evans Breakfast radio show in the UK.
No. 1 and 2 Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer were placed in separate groups, then players were placed randomly in sets of 2 thereafter.
Federer, the lone former champion in the field, landed with former US Open champion Marin Cilic and two tournament debutantes, Alexander Zverev and Jack Sock.
Federer is 9-1 against the entire field this year losing only to Zverev. He’ll open against Sock on Sunday at 2pm.

If his knee is well enough, Nadal will take on three players who have never made a Grand Slam final and two in Grigor Dimitrov and David Goffin who have qualified for their first ATP Finals.
Nadal will have the extra day to get his knee ready before playing on Monday. He is 17-3 against those in his group, Federer is 12-3 overall.
Federer is seeking a 7th ATP Finals title, Nadal a first.
