Novak Djokovic: I Am Proud of My Winning Streak [Video]
A very confident and relaxed sounding Novak Djokovic called his winning streak “amazing” today. The hot-handed Djokovic improved his current run to 40 straight wins, 38 this year, after easily beating Thiemo de Bakker 62, 61, 63 in his first match at Roland Garros.
“It’s been amazing streak which if you ask me in the beginning of the year, would I expect that? No,” Djokovic said. “I didn’t expect that for it to go this far. But the hard work that I put into it is paying off now and I’m really trying to have the right mental approach to every match that I play on, try to think about only winning, about next opponent, and this is what keeps me on the ground and keeps me very focused. I’m not trying to think about the streak that I have, even though it’s definitely something that makes me it’s definitely something that makes me proud.”
When asked about his much talked about gluten diet, Djokovic didn’t reveal much. “Unfortunately I can’t talk about it too much. I know that you want to hear more details, but all I’m gonna say is that it’s gluten free. I can’t talk about it, because it’s private.”
He went on to add, “There are so many other things that I’ve been doing well throughout the years that have just come together right now. Fitness, tennis, you know, recovery program, all these kind of things. I mean, I have a great team of people around me that is really working on making my life easy on the court so it make me feel great so I can perform my best tennis.”
Yesterday, Djokovic celebrated his 24th birthday at the Serbian Embassy in Paris where he was joined by several of his countryman and women. He also visited the French paper L’Equipe where they presented him with a birthday cake.
