Swiatek Keeps Rolling, Wins 4th Straight Event Taking Stuttgart Over Sabalenka
There’s no stopping Iga Swiatek. The World No. 1 upped her win streak to 23 by cruising past Aryna Sabalenka 6-2, 6-2 to win the Stuttgart title.
Swiatek has now won her fourth straight event and today’s outcome was never in doubt. The Polish star avoided an early break and then rolled to her seventh title, all in a row.
“For sure right now I need to work harder to keep this streak, but I’m just going to take it match by match, and I’m super proud of myself and really satisfied. These are the kind of players who were role models when I was growing up.”
Swiatek dropped a rare set yesterday to Liudmilla Samsonova but cleaned up her game in the final.
“I worked hard this week to adjust properly and to play my best tennis on this surface,” Swiatek said. “I’m pretty proud of myself and pretty proud of my team because basically after yesterday’s match, it wasn’t easy to reset physically and mentally and be ready for today.”
After a rough start to the year, Sabalenka was playing in her first semifinal and final of the season. She falls in the final for a second straight year.
