Swiatek, Sabalenka, Gauff Lead 8 Of Top 10 In Stuttgart
A loaded field officially opens the European clay swing this week on the WTA Tour in Stuttgart where eight of the Top 10 women have assembled for the 500 level event.
The tournament has seen six different winners the last six years, but Iga Swiatek comes in as the tournament favorite.
Swiatek beat her top threat Aryna Sabalenka in a final last year as part of her incredible win streak.
Top seeds are: 1 Iga Swiatek, 2 Aryna Sabalenka, 3 Ons Jabeur, 4 Caroline Garcia, 5 Coco Gauff, 6 Elena Rybakina, 7 Daria Kasatkina, 8 Maria Sakkari.
No. 1 Swiatek is projected to meet 8 Sakkari in her quarters. No. 3 Jabeur could collide with 6 Rybakina. No. 5 Gauff – 4 Garcia, and 7 seed Kasatkina – 2 Sabalenka.
The semifinals are projected to be Iga Swiatek-Ons Jabeur and Aryna Sabalenka-Caroline Garcia.
The top seeded Swiatek gets a bye then opens with the winner of Qinwen Zheng-Alycia Parks. Zheng has given the Polish star problems before.
The second seeded Sabalenka winner face a tough task with either Barbora Krejcikova or Liudmila Samsonova.
Among the other notable first round matches: Karolina Pliskova-Maria Sakkari, Jelena Ostapenko-Emma Raducanu, Jule Niemeier-Elena Rybakina, Coco Gauff-Veronika Kudermetova, Petra Martic-Anastasia Potapova and Daria Kasatkina-Paula Badosa.
