Suffering from a left calf injury, Ons Jabeur had to call it quits down 3-0 in her semifinal against Iga Swiatek today in the Stuttgart semifinals.

The 28-year-old Tunisian sustained the injury just as the highly-anticipated match began.

“The third point, I don’t know what happened,” Jabeur said to the WTA. “I was really excited to play Iga today, it’s always a fun matchup between us. I wish her the best luck for the final.

“I’m sorry guys, I really tried to run, but Iga never makes it easy.”

Jabeur will now have to worry about her status for her Madrid title defense. Meanwhile, Swiatek continues her title defense as she returns to the final to face Aryna Sabalenka in a rematch from last year’s championship match.

Sabalenka cruised past 22-year-old Anastasia Potapova in straight sets 6-1, 6-2.

The 2nd-ranked Sabalenka finished with three aces, never lost serve and broke serve four times in the match. She dropped just three total points on serve in the first set.

Swiatek leads Sabalenka 4-2 in their tour-level contests but Sabalenka won their last meeting in the 2022 Fort Worth semifinal.

“Aryna is a great player and she’s in great shape,” Swiatek said. “I have to be ready to play my best tennis. For sure, this surface, we both like clay court, but it’s a little bit faster than most of the clay courts. I’m gonna have to be ready on my return and just for the fast pace.”

Both players are seeking their 13th career title tomorrow.

“Last year I was struggling a lot with a lot of things, especially my serve,” Sabalenka said of her 6-2, 6-2 loss in the Stuttgart final last year. “This year I feel like a different player, different person right now. So I feel I’m much calmer on court.”
