Rune v Van De Zandschulp In Munich Title Rematch!
For the second straight year Holger Rune will take on Botic Van De Zandschulp for the Munich title.
The defending champion Rune with a straightforward 6-3, 6-2 over Australian Christopher O’Connell. Rune is into his second straight final and second straight in Munich having won his first title last year over the Dutchman.
“It’s been a very good start to the clay season for me and to be able to continue here in Munich means a lot,” Rune said on court. “I have very special memories from here, so super excited for tomorrow.”
Van De Zanschulp put an end to Taylor Fritz’s hopes with a 6-4, 7-6(7-2) over the American No. 1.
Van De Zandschulp lost only six points on second serve, was broken once but broke serve twice in the match.
Fritz two sets points in the second and then got squashed in the breaker. A rare breaker loss for the Californian.
“Played really good tennis today. Didn’t make a lot of mistakes and I think Taylor is playing amazing at the moment, reaching so many semi-finals in Masters and even further,” Van De Zandschulp said. “He’s a great player and I had to play really good today.”
