For the second straight year Iga Swiatek took the Stuttgart indoor clay title defeating Aryna Sabalenka. Last year, Swiatek dropped just four games to the Belarussian in the title match. Today it was seven in a 6-3, 6-4 win.

Swiatek captures her 13th career title. She’s now 13-3 in finals. And she’s 22 of her last 23 matches on clay. It’s her second straight in Stuttgart and with it another free Porsche.

“I wanted to win really, really hard, but I knew that I can’t really focus on that and just I have to keep doing my job as I did on previous matches,” Swiatek said to the WTA. “I’m pretty happy that I could kind of have good mentality and just focus on what I want to do tennis-wise.”

Swiatek never dropped serve in the match facing just one break point. The world No. 1 got back-to-back breaks to lead 5-3 in the first and then 1-0 in the second, and that was all she needed to improve to 5-2 against Sabalenka.

This was the first No. 1 vs No. 2 meeting in the final on the WTA since the 2018 Australian Open final between Caroline Wozniacki and Simona Halep.
