Daniel beat Spain's Alberto Montanes 6-4, 6-3 in one hour and 19 minutes for a second round meeting against No. 16 seed Andrei Pavel -- the player he lost to in Poertschach. Montanes has also reaches the same stage in Vina del Mar and Houston. In the same half of the Kitzbuhel draw, Australian qualifier Peter Luczak condemned Ivo Minar to his 13th ATP-level defeat of the season. Luczak beat the Czech 6-1, 3-6, 6-1 in their second career meeting, adding to a win in the 2006 Australian Open first round. Luczak hits ten aces, winning 34 of 43 points on first serve. The 26-year-old managed just to win 25 of 61 points on return of serve but broke Minar on four of six opportunities. Minar has not won an ATP-level match since the second week of the 2006 season in Auckland. The Czech holds a 1-13-match record. Luczak, currently No. 153 in the INDESIT ATP Rankings and playing his eighth ATP-level tournament this year, will take on German No. 13 seed Philipp Kohlschreiber in the second round. Austrian wild card Andreas Haider-Maurer won his career first ATP-level match over Argentine qualifier Damian Patriarca 6-7(5), 6-2, 6-3. Haider-Maurer will meet No. 10 seed Max Mirnyi next. Third-seeded Jarkko Nieminen will challenge Argentine qualifier Sergio Roitman, a 6-4, 6-3 winner over Razvan Sabau, in his opening match. Sixth-seeded Nicolas Massu, runner-up to Novak Djokovic in Amersfoort last week, will meet Spanish qualifier Alex Calatrava. -- ATP |
