Federer, Davydenko, Blake Leads Cincinnati QuartersPosted on August 17, 2007 World No. 1 and 2005 champion Roger Federer, No. 5 Nikolay Davydenko and No. 9 James Blake are the highest seeds going into Friday’s quarterfinals at the Cincinnati Tennis Masters in Mason, Ohio. In addition, former No. 1s Carlos Moya (2002 champ) and Lleyton Hewitt (2002, ’04 finalist) meet in a rematch of their final here five years ago. No. 16 seed David Ferrer, Moya and unseeded Nicolas Almagro are the Spanish trio in the quarters. American teenage wild card Sam Querrey appears in his first ATP Masters Series quarterfinal against Blake. Federer has an amazing 46-7 career record against the remaining field with the seven losses coming only to Hewitt, though the Swiss has beaten the Australian 10 straight times. Federer remains cautious though looking ahead to today's encouter with Almagro who he's beaten in all four prior meetings. "He's got a wonderful kick serve," Fed said of the Spaniard. "Great motion and nice forehand. He's a danger player from the back. Massive power and he's a big guy. I have to hopefully stay aggressive and probably have to play a bit better than I did today. Hope I can concentrate on my on serve and hold on to that and create chances." (ATP Digital Services) |
