Posted on July 26, 2008

The US Open Series turns 'Euro Series' next week on the WTA Tour at the Rogers Cup in Montreal, where no Americans rank among the 16 seeds. Lindsay Davenport and sisters Venus and Serena Williams are all sidelined with knee injuries, hoping to be ready for the upcoming Beijing Olympics.

World No. 1 Ana Ivanovic is the top seed, joined by fellow Top 8 seeds Jelena Jankovic, Maria Sharapova, Svetlana Kuznetsova, Elena Dementieva, Anna Chakvetadze, Dinara Safina and Vera Zvonareva, making for six Russians of the Top 8.

Sharapova could face streaking American Bethanie Mattek in the second round after a bye, and No. 16 seed Nicole Vaidisova in the third round.

Potential quarterfinal match-ups include Ivanovic vs. Zvonareva, Kuznetsova vs. Safina, Sharapova vs. Chakvetadze, and Jankovic vs. Dementieva or Petrova.

Ivanovic defeated Martina Hingis in the last Montreal final in 2006.
