Hats Off

A big congrats go out to our two year-end champions, Amelie Mauresmo and David Nalbandian.

Both players are well noted for having never won the big one - well, they still haven’t - but they did manage to win the next biggest thing in their sports, the year-end championships. And both did it in similar fashion overcoming a large deficit to claim victory in the finale.

Where are the Masters?

How do you spell U-G-L-Y. How about T-M-C.
Talk about a faint finish, the Tennis Masters Cup in Shanghai just got the news this morning that both Andre Agassi and Rafael Nadal have pulled out. Ouch! Replacing the two stars are Mariano Puerta and Fernando Gonzalez which makes the remaining 2005 field about as exiciting as […]

Year End Bust

Maybe it’s just me but doesn’t the conclusion to the 2005 tennis season feel like a complete bust.

The WTA Championships are a lame duck tank job of an event. The stands are empty, there’s no media buzz and TV coverage is uneven. Without the Williams sisters there’s no real drama on court. Andy’s Out

Big news of the day is that Andy Roddick has decided to take a pass on the Masters Cup in Shanghai slated to begin Sunday. Can ya blame him?

Roddick’s back has been buggin’ him and he just played a few sets Monday night in Hershey, PA for the World Team Tennis Smash Hit event. Put yourself in his shoes, after that, who the heck would want to travel some 16-20 hours to Shanghai and play more tennis with really nothing at stake.

Where’s the Tennis on TV?

With the televised MNF madness that is the New England Patriots and the Indy Colts no longer suspenseful, I thought i’d take a moment to reflect upon the state of tennis on TV in the U.S….Okay, done.

That was quick, as there isn’t much to reflect on as there hasn’t been a single ATP or WTA tennis match televised in the U.S. since the conclusion of Davis Cup in late September.

Opening Act

So it’s done. I’m actually blogging.
The kind folks at Tennis-X has asked for my help in running a blog for their site. Being the kind person I am, I agreed. Of course, I really don’t even know what a blog is or what the frenzy is about.
After doing a quick search, blog is short […]
