Roger Federer had a very special guest in his box tonight for his match against Marinko Matosevic. Years ago Federer had the support of Tiger Woods in his seats and tonight he added arguably the biggest star on the planet, NBA great Michael Jordan.

Jordan admitted he’s no good at tennis and this was his first US Open. But he was nervous watching Federer play.

The 6-time NBA champion was in town promoting the new Nike sneaker he and Federer collaborated on. This Swiss was wearing them tonight.

At 33 Federer is trying to become one of the oldest Grand Slam champion. Jordan won three more NBA titles after turning 33.

“I’m just so happy that he came into the world of tennis a little bit,” Federer said. “Got to see some tennis, that it was me, sort of being the character in the whole show, you know, was kind of cool with the collaborations of the shoes, which is very special to me I must say. He was one of the smoothest movers out there. So for him to give me that compliment means a lot. Meeting him yesterday for the first time was a big deal for me. It was a special sort of last 24 hour plus.

“He was just my hero of all sports. That’s what he was for me growing up. Besides Edberg and Becker being my tennis idols, I had Jordan as my all sports idol.”

7 Comments for Michael Jordan Talks About Roger Federer At The US Open [Video]

skeezer Says:

This was a great interview with another GOAT in his sport. Fed attracts them from other sports and the comraderie continues. Awesome that Nike, and the wildly successful Air Jordon shoe brand, partnered with Fed and his Tennis brand and came up with first and one of a kind shoe for Tennis. Classy, great lookin, and if course they will sell a ton. Go Fed! Go Jordon, GOAT!

wilfried Says:

I endorse your comment, Skeezer.
As for basketball and tennis: I loved and played them both with passion. Once got seriously injured playing basketball, so did have to quit it. Michael Jordon was my favorite player.

Roger Federer’s newest Nike tennis shoe looks just like classic Air Jordans

skeezer Says:

@wilfried
Thank you. Sorry to hear about your injury. Yes, loved watching MJ win all those NBA titles. Guy was fun to watch.

Humble Rafa Says:

Goats having a convention without a goat owner?

SG1 Says:

Michael didn’t have a goat owner so in the spirit of politeness, only goats are allowed.

SG1 Says:

I actually think MJ and Rafa are more “sports-alike” than MJ and Fed. Michael had an indomitable spirit and just didn’t let himself or his team get beaten mentally.
