The ATP has just released a tribute feature to the career and achievements of Roger Federer. Some of greats who weigh in on the Swiss include Pete Sampras, Mats Wilander, Stefan Edberg and more.

Federer says in the video, “I remember I put a No. 1 on my door at Miami, and I joked ‘This is the door of the No. 1 junior in the World. I’m the best.’ And this is definitely one of the moments where I hoped that one on day I could have the same thing going in the men’s and I think this is when the dream came alive for me.”

Federer is the top seed at the Miami tennis event. He plays his second round match on Saturday at 8pm.

andrea Says:

they must have really edited mats wilander’s interview since he seems to be the one ‘great’ who grudgingly gives roger the ‘best ever’ moniker.

fedfan Says:

Nobody cares about what Wilander has to say anyways. He’s still bothered by the fact that he said Roger was never going to win the Frnch Open because he did not have the cojones to do it. Well, we all know how that turned out. Also Mirka in 2004 at the Australian Open went off on him and Pat Cash at an evening event before the Open statred that year. Roger also won the tournament that year for his 2nd slam. That is where the grudging comments are coming from. Mats knows Roger is the best who has ever played the game.

I’ve rewatched that famous/infamous post-FO-2006-interview with Wilander many times, and all I remember is that he has voiced doubts as to whether Fed can win the French AGAINST NADAL, not that he can’t win it against someone else… Check the facts before making these premature conclusions, OK?

Kimo Says:

Rogerrrrrrrr!!!!!!

Texas Longhorn Says:

I enjoyed that video. I don’t care much for Wilander’s previous comments about Roger either. He did apologize to Roger, but still doesn’t make it right. Plus, Roger has the French Open now :).

Kimmi Says:

I know it’s been a long 10 months Andrea since Nadal has won a tournament, but there’s no need to be bitter towards other great champions. I think he is about ready to break out of his dry spell. Isn’t it nice to know that your favorite player, Nadal, has a winning record against the GOAT on clay.

???

i’m not bitter towards other champions. i’m laughing cos mats is one of those guys that is always shooting his mouth off so to see him in this video saying what he said is hilarious. it’s an about face to everything he has said previously. maybe there was someone bending his arm and we can’t see it….

and fed is actually my fave player. but you’re new to this site so i’ll cut you some slack!

and i also don’t believe in the GOAT debate. roger is a great player and has achieved a lot but so have many others. if there is a consistency trophy, then we can hand it out to roger hands down. that’s the one area where he seems to be peerless.

NELTA Says:

Thank you for the explanation and I’m glad you didn’t put champion in parentheses like you did with “great” when referring to Mats this time. 7 grand slams puts him in that category even if you consider his change of opinion comical. I also don’t buy the conspiracy theory. Who/why??? He flip-flopped/changed his mind/had a change of heart, whatever you want to call it.
