Here’s a nice video profile on Mario Ancic who we all know has battled more than his fair-share of injury and bad luck.

It seems like forever when Ancic beat Roger Federer on Center Court Wimbledon. But the talented Ancic was hit by a bout of mono which knocked him off the ATP circuit and he really hasn’t been the same since.

While away from the game he took classes and earned a law degree.

In the present, he was scheduled to play this week in the Queen’s Club Aegon Tennis Championships but a back injury has forced him out. He is still planning to play Wimbledon.

Ancic is still just 26 so there’s time. And with the blossoming Marin Cilic and the steady Ivan Ljubicic, if Mario were to return Croatia would be that much more a formidible tennis nation.

Ancic has been a bit ( or very) unlucky. First with mono and now with the back injury. I hope he can return to Wimbledon and play for a long time.

I’m sad for this guy. He was so talented, was so mentally tough, had such a promising career, had such a beautiful and powerful serve & volley game, is such a nice/smart guy, should have won at least one Wimbledon title by now, but is so unlucky with those injuries and that persistent illness (Mono). Thanks God he is still only 26! Hopefully, things will get better for him very soon.

Have to agree.Really liked Mario’s style of play first time I saw him at Wimbeldon and watched out for his matches after that. He really has had such a bad time and to fight so hard to come back from his first bought of mono and then get struck down all over again is just heartbreaking.I hope he’s well over it now because I really look forward to watching him play this year.
