The scuttle is over. Tennis star Sania Mirza and Shoaib Malik were officially married on Monday in a private ceremony held at the Taj Kirisna Hotel in the bride’s hometown of Hyderabad, India.

“Sania wore a red saree that her mother had worn 25 years ago for her own nikaah. Shoaib wore wearing a black sherwani which was made by Shantanu and Nikhil,” said Sania’s spokesperson, Rucha Nayak.

Controversy and tensions surrounded Malik, a Pakistani cricket star, who married Ayesha Siddiqui over the phone in 2002. After denials and claims of cheating (Malik says Siddiqui cheated by sending him photos that weren’t of her), Malik officially divorced Siddiqui last week allowing the Mirza marriage to continue.

So Mirza turned “a double fault into advantage Sania” according to the reporter in the below video.

Advantage appetites, too. The main menu lunch spread included 26 dishes with seven different starters and 12 deserts.

Mirza, who has been off the WTA tennis tour fighting wrist problems, has seen her ranking slip to a current mark of #89.

Hina Says:

Congrats to both..HAPPY MARRIAGE to both.

Salman Says:

I really feel bad for you dear Sania. You belong to such a respectable family and got entangled with this guy?? Anyhow, wish the very best and we are hoping somehow it works ou for you.

Skorocel Says:

Did this girl EVER draw some attention with something different than her off-court life? LOL :-) I’d suggest her staying off the tennis circus for good. Not that she was a good player anyway…

Btw, why isn’t Roddick in the funk section? Shame on you, tennis-x.com!

Ben Pronin Says:

That’s not true, Skorocel. She was pretty good but then injuries and I’m guessing lack of motivation got in the way.

Skorocel Says:

umm…lets see… she won a grand slam mixed doubles title, a tour singles title, and had multiple wins over top ten players :) She does have talent and could have been in the top 20 but for these injuries.

true, she has been in a lot of controversies, but very few of them could be attributed to her. how was she to anticipate that a former wife of her to-be-husband, who had been quiet for so many years, would suddenly resurface and accuse him of dumping her for being over-weight :)

Skorocel Says:

Ben: As far as Mirza goes, I’m yet to see (or hear about) one decent success in her tennis career… Whenever I hear her name (at least here on tennis-x.com) it’s either her marriage, her problems with her tennis outfit, her disputes with the Indian tennis & other authorities, her this or that, etc. etc. Who cares?

Ben Pronin Says:

“Who cares?”

Amen.

Von Says:

Skorocel:

“Btw, why isn’t Roddick in the funk section? Shame on you, tennis-x.com!”

Don’t you know why?? Because he won the Miami masters. How dare he!! There’s never a doubt he’d make the trunk if he slips up a smidgen, but when it’s the funk, he’s clearly forgotten. Good work Tennis-X.com.

Skorocel Says:

Von: Considering the current state of American tennis (AND its future – which, if you take away the Williamses and Roddick, isn’t quite bright), it’s kind of ironic when you see the media (including the tennis-x.com) giving so little attention to A-Rod’s recent results… As we in Slovakia say: even the pot boils over to the poor ones…
