Rafael Nadal Bares It for Armani Underwear Ad [Video]
by Tom Gainey | March 8th, 2011, 9:17 am

nadal-armani-adLadies, the wait is over. Emporio Armani Underwear and Jeans has released is long-awaiting advertisement featuring tennis No. 1 Rafael Nadal.

The near-minute black-and-whitead spot for the Spring/Summer 2011 advertising campaign features a shirtless Nadal doing what fashion models do in commercials: Slicking back his hair, getting splashed with gallons upon gallons of water and making out or trying to make out with the side of a wall. Standard stuff, really.

Nadal is wearing jeans (Armani jeans I presume) most of the time but there is one brief moment where the sportsman is caught wearing just underwear – And people say Nadal?

“He always chose interesting clothes for tennis, like long trousers or long sleeves on court – he wears a lot of colour,” Roberta Armani said about Nadal. “He is not just an amazing sportsman but also an artist. I’m so proud he is joining the family.”

Nadal replaced Cristiano Ronaldo at the end of 2010 as Armani’s sexy male face. Megan Fox is their female choice and I will admit I like her ad better!

Nadal is in Portland, Oregon tonight where he joins Roger Federer, Maria Sharapova and Azarenka for the “NIKE Clash of the Champions” at the University of Oregon’snew Matthew Knight Arena. Then Nadal and the rest of the top ATP tennis troops will be on display at the Indian Wells BNP Parisbas Open this week. The draw will be released later today.

queen Says:

Love me some Rafa, but I do not like the add. Do not see much of the armani product in it. They show one pair of jeans and one-second glimpse of the underwear. Rain, wooden bench? I guess I am not artistic enough to understand it. LOL

Susan Says:

Great vid, both for its art and for its model.

Surprisingly good modelling by Nadal. He’s a natural.

Sean Randall Says:

Have any of the tennis greats (Federer, Sampras, Laver, etc) ever been part of such a campaign? I don’t think so!

jojostryus Says:

Sean, so what?

Well of course not! They’re all such geeks!

Skeezerweezer Says:

I just hope they don’t turn Rafa into a Village People act.

Kimberly Says:

rafa is hot. I intend to be one of the pushy moms in miami forcing him to give my son an autograoh maybe photo opportunity.

Anita Says:

Federer, Sampras, Laver? You’re kidding right? If I wanted to see a grizzly bear I’d go to the woods. Instead I want to look at and drool over a hot bod and Rafa fits that to a t. He is an awesome tennis player (Number 1) but also has the hotness to bring in more of the female fans. VIVA ESPANA!!! VAMOS!

Just because others haven’t, it doesn’t make Nadal any less great.

dari Says:

Don’t think laver could pull this off, and fed and Pete would require too much waxing.

Kimmi Says:

grizzly bear! ouch!

Anna Says:

It was just a matter of time. I knew Rafa would be a HOT topic after seeing his picture on the cover of New York Mag a few years ago. To me it’s more than just a look, there’s an underlying appeal that’s just sexy as hell.

M Says:

@Sean – Carlos, Rafa’s mentor, did a series of 2(x)ist ads.

He also won RG in his day — he just retired; he wanted to keep playing but had difficulty overcoming his injury troubles — and just received a special award at the Conde Godo in Barcelona (which he’s also won). IDK if that’s “great” enough for you.
