Kim Clijsters “Severely” Injures Ankle, French Open Uncertain
More bad news for the women’s circuit. Kim Clijsters has injured her ankle during a wedding party this weekend.
According to her website, the injury occurred while the Belgian tennis star was attending the wedding of her cousin, Tim.
A statement on her website read, “After a visit to the doctor, echo and NMR the diagnosis is a severe strain of both the medial and lateral ligaments of the right ankle and a torn ligaments, a torn capsule of the ankle joint, a hematoma and torn tendon sheath.”
Clijsters could be out as long as 4-6 weeks leaving the French Open in doubt.
“Kim’s ankle is now completely immobilised and she can not use her foot for a few days,” the statement said. “Kim faces a recovery of at least four to six weeks. Since the French Open starts in literally six weeks, Kim’s presence in Paris is very uncertain. In the meantime Kim has to continue working on her recovery of a shoulder and wrist injury.”
The star-starved WTA is already without the services of Serena Williams, Venus Williams and Justin Henin who announced her re-retirement.
