federer-niketownAfter his fifth Dubai title Saturday, Roger Federer arrived into New York City early Sunday in preperation for tonight’s exhibition match against Andy Roddick at Madison Square Garden.

“Just landed in New York City from Dubai! Very excited to be in the Big Apple for the exo tomorrow night at Madison Square Garden,” Federer wrote yesterday on Facebook.

With some time on his hands, Federer visited the NikeTown store in the Big Apple, to apparently pick up some “gear”.

“In Niketown NYC trying to beat my jet lag. So far so good after a long trip. Checking out some gear…,” Federer posted.

Coming off of consecutive titles in Dubai and Rotterdam, Federer has won nine straight matches. Meanwhile Andy Roddick is going the other direction. The former No. 1 is down to a ranking of No. 31 this week.

Maria Sharapova and Caroline Wozniacki will also play in the “Blonde Undercard”. You can watch the matches on ESPN3.com.

I wonder if Maria shrieks in exhibition matches.

Humble Rafa Says:

I wonder if Maria shrieks in exhibition matches.

If Maria doesn’t scream, your Humble Highness will ask for a refund.

Kimmi Says:

what I am thinking is, too much tennis for fed.

skeezerweezer Says:

“I wonder if Maria shrieks in exhibition matches.”

I was wondering where else does she might shriek?

RZ Says:

Kimmi, heading into any other tournament (except perhaps Miami), I might agree with you about too much tennis for Fed. But Indian Wells is a fairly forgiving tournament, with first-round byes for the top pros (so the earliest he’d play would be Saturday), days off between matches, and its best of 3 format. Also, it doesn’t look like Fed is playing doubles there this year, so I’m guessing he’ll be rested enough.

Eric Says:

Wait, Federer lost? Wow… he must feel really bad for Andy!

jane Says:

Where’d you get the score? Fed’s lost at least one exo to Andy before (KooYong 2007) but he always beat him when it counted (and hurt, from Roddick’s perspective) the most.

Eric Says:

Googled it. Andy won 75, 76.

jane Says:

Yep, just saw Eric; it’s up at ATP site. Well, maybe that’s a good boost for Roddick, although he seems to be starting to think seriously about moving into radio.
