Ahead of his home event in Basel where he once was a ballboy, World No. 1 Roger Federer spent some downtime Thursday by taking his twin daughters to the local children’s zoo in Rapperswil. Federer admitted to the press that his 3-year-old girls, Charlene Riva and Myla Rose, love visiting the animals but joked that they won’t be getting a pony anytime soon.

The 5-time Basel champion is currently in a race for the No. 1 ranking with Novak Djokovic who will take next week off to prepare for Paris, a tournament Federer may or may not play.

“I hope I can play three tournaments in three week but I must sit down and just think about what is with Paris,” Federer said according to this tweet from chiara gambuzza.

If Federer passes on Paris he’ll be all but handing Djokovic the year-end No. 1 ranking.

Andy Murray and Juan Martin Del Potro are also in the Basel field.

alison Says:

These two little girls are so cute and adorable in their matching outfits, such a striking resemblance to their father too,one little thing though why do parents always dress twins identically?i just think it would be nice to see them in different outfits for a change.

LA Says:

@alison I read Roger said they dressed them the same at this age otherwise they fight, one having something the other doesn’t.Too much chaos It will change as they grow older.

anil sharma fedex Says:

jenny cramer Says:

Even if Rog does not hit number 1 spot for 2012, he has that wonderful record of 300 weeks – can anyone beat that?

trufan Says:

Doesn’t really matter that much anymore. Fed now has most records that matter. And many more. I still think he will skip paris and focus on winning a 7th YEC. That will throw the YEC ball WAY out of the park for anyone to ever reach it.

Even if he plays Paris and wins, Djokovic will get the No. 1 ranking anyway, unless he tanks in Paris (loses in QF or below) AND tanks at the YEC (wins max two of the 3 round robin matches, and loses in the semi). Djoke seals the No. 1 ranking by either reaching the Paris final, OR reaching the Paris semi and then winning two matches at the YEC. Unlikely he won’t be able to do that.

nilam Says:

Federer has won the YEC in pairs at different locations i.e. 2003 & 2004 at Houston, 2006 & 2007 at Shanghai and 2010 & 2011 at London. According to this “trend”, he will not win this year. ;)

steve-o Says:

Nice to see he has some time for daddy-daughter day in the midst of a tough season.

Colin Says:

I always think how silly it looks with all those microphones being thrust under the person’s nose. Why can’t they have one mike connected to a unit all the interviewers could plug into?

skeezer Says:

Tennis is by nature a selfish sport. So for him to be spending time with his wife and children is telling about the mans character.
