MUTUA MADRID OPEN
Madrid, Spain; Surface: clay

Seeds: Serena Williams, Maria Sharapova, Victoria Azarenka, Agnieszka Radwanska, Li Na, Angelique Kerber, Sara Errani, Petra Kvitova, Samantha Stosur, Caroline Wozniacki, Nadia Petrova, Roberta Vinci, Maria Kirilenko, Marion Bartoli, Dominika Cibulkova, Ana Ivanovic
ADHEREL

Floaters: Venus Williams, (WC) Anabel Medina Garrigues, Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, Svetlana Kuznetsova, Jelena Jankovic, Carla Suarez Navarro, Shuai Peng

Notes: Insane field with two former No. 1s and an additional Slam champ all unseeded…All 10 of the Top 10 are in Madrid…Not a lot of match play lately for Azarenka coming in…The Top 3 seeds are current or former No. 1s…Tough opening-round matches are (5) Na vs. Tamira Paszek then the winner of Venus and (WC) Medina Garrigues, (3) Azarenka vs. Pavlyuchenkova, (11) Petrova vs. a qualifier then likely Kuznetsova, (16) Ivanovic vs. a qualifier then likely her Serb countrywoman Jankovic, (9) Stosur vs. the clay-savvy Suarez Navarro, and (2) Sharapova vs. a qualifier then likely Peng…No blue clay this year…Former champs in the field are Serena Williams (2012) and Kvitova (2011).

Moo's Tennis Blog Says:

Really exciting draw and especially with none of the top seeds having byes. Tough openers for Vika and Stosur, but expect both to come through. Going for a Sharapova-Serena final, which would be really intriguing on red clay…

Cena Says:

Geez, what tough competition!! I can’t venture a guess as to who will win, but won’t be disappointed with a Serena, Sara E. or Vika victory. May the best woman win!

Humble Rafa Says:

Thank you for the breaking news. There is no such thing as rivalry in ladies tennis. It’s a chokefest.

Tootie Says:

It’s hard for me to pull for Serena; she is militant.
