Earlier today Roger Federer arrived in China for the 2013 Shanghai Masters. The Swiss is playing his first event since a disappointing fourth round loss at the US Open to Tommy Robredo.

Federer is currently ranked No. 6 but is 7th in the 2013 standings. With Andy Murray likely out due to back surgery there’s an excellent chance Roger still qualifies for the London Finals.

The 32-year-old Federer reached the semifinals in Shanghai last year. He was a runner-up in 2010. Upon arriving in Shanghai he was greeted at the airport by fans, media and tournament director Michael Luevano.

Federer, who is also playing doubles at the tournament with China’s No.1 ranked player Zhang Ze, will be joined by Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal among others when the event begins on Sunday.

Finally!!Let’s get back to the winning way :)

Michael Says:

It has been a rather disappointing year for Roger and as his passionate fans, we are eager that he bounces back and brings in reminiscence of his peak form which is deserting him at the moment. The key problem for Roger is lack of consistency which is hurting him. He has an excellent outing one day and an awful outing the very next day. Perhaps age is catching up with Roger, but even that cannot be offered as an excuse for the complete collapse of his form. There is some spark missing from Roger although he still maintains that he is passionate about the sport and has the urge to win even more. Let us hope that Shanghai proves lucky for Roger and the court is definitely a bit advantage for him since it is a little bit on the faster side. He has beaten here Rafa before and so let us keep our fingers crossed as to what Roger can offer.

Steve 27 Says:

In indoors, Michael, not in outdoor.

Michael Says:

Steve, If I remember right, it was in 2007, isn’t it ? Indoors – definitely yes. Beating Rafa on any court is difficult. But, on the positive side for Roger, courts in Shanghai are a tad faster than other hard courts and that must favour him. Although they are outdoor today, if there is a place where Roger can regain back his confidence, it is here. Let us hope for the best. It is not going to be definitely easy with a field comprising the likes of Rafa and Novak.

Tennis X Hippy Chic Says:

Michael Roger has Murray to worry about now too, obviously not at the moment though as he is recuperating after his surgery.

Giles Says:

New bat or old bat? That is the question!! Lol

Perfect fan Says:

Jus checked out roger’s outfit for SM ’13…….

Not very good TBH….but looks pretty cool to me though :P

He generally looks classy in whatever attires he wears….allez fed!

Giles Says:

Somebody said “no party without Roger .. “.
Rubbish, the players have been having a ball without Roger.
He missed out on all the fun! Lol

hawkeye Says:

Fed should get a decent draw before the semis in Shanghai.

He won’t be in Nole’s half (given the faster conditions) and will likely fall into Ferru’s quarter. Will probably see him line up potentially against Wawa or Nico in R16. Tipsy likely thrown in for good measure in R32.

He will avoid potential trouble makers like Raonic, Isner (even though he can’t play outside the US) and Ernestststs.

Tennis X Hippy Chic Says:

I struggled to hear this interview from Roger,as there was way too much background noise.

hawkeye Says:

Yes he isn’t bleating as loudly as he used to.

(Sorry, couldn’t resist the set up but c’mon, is a little funny, no?)

Michael Says:

Alison,

The way Roger is playing today, every Tom, Dick and Harry will worry him, leave alone Andy.
