With the exhibition season in full swing, the top two players in tennis, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic, are both in South American this week for a special exhibition series.

Yesterday in Santiago, Chile, in honor of former Olympic hold medalist Nicolas Massu’s retirement, Djokovic defeated Nadal 7-6, 6-4.

The pair, who have met 39 times with Nadal leading 22-17, will play again Sunday in Buenos Aires, Argentina in recognition of David Nalbandian.

Seems like Rafa and Novak do get along rather well……but their fans…….not!! Lol

Okiegal Says:

^^^^^^^
I should have added…..it may be on a have to basis and that may be expected of them.

Bad Knee Rules Says:

Nadal is not picking or grabbing at anything in this exho, no ticks at all or hardly any.

Tennis X Hippy Chic Says:

Both look smart and hot too.

Anna Says:

BKR – It’s been noted that the tics, etc. occur in high stress situations. This is true of anyone who exhibits tics. The exhos appear to be fun and low key.

@Bad Knee Rules

Excellent points made in that article!

Ben Pronin Says:

There’s always an explanation for Rafa’s shenanigans.

Agree.

Tennis X Hippy Chic Says:

Okiegal yeah seems like they get on ok,but you have to remember that theres nothing at stake in exhos,like there is in a proper match,so both can just go out and relax and play for fun,the relationship between Rafa and Novak has cooled off IMO its not as nice and friendly as it once was,im just second guessing here but i think the Murray/Novak one will eventually go the same way the more they meet.

gonzalowski Says:

Ben,
all the things in the world have their explanation, Imo

You are probably right. I am amazed that.they can come together like this and put everything aside for their fans.

Rafa does have nervous tics….so do I. I would not call it shenanigans. I have noticed that he isn’t the only one. Andy and Novak have weird mouth tics. The commentators have talked about Murray doing this. Roddick picked at the front of his shorts all the time…..a nervous mannerism. Never heard one commentator mention that. To each his own…..different strokes for different folks!! I have never noticed any nervous tics from Fed…other than getting agitated when he is losing..but who wouldn’t??? Some pick their noses, Rosol did a lot of spitting. All I can say, don’t watch Rafa….but that is asking a lot when Rafa haters want to see him get beat by Tom, Dick or Harry!!

Vamos Maestro Nadal!!

Tennis X Hippy Chic Says:

Okiegal Rafa OCD,i have OCD too,its actually whats called the secret illness,some peoples lives are filled with certain rituals,i have to do everything in even numbers,and in straight lines,right before left when putting my shoes on,apparantly many players have had superstitions over the years too,picking ones nose and spitting is a dirty habit though yuck,Sharapova always turns her back to her oponent after each point,Vika has to have her plait down her shoulder when she serves,A.Rod used to take his cap off too,Novak rolls his head and makes his eyes go wide, Murray does that wide open mouth thing,i find these things funny rather than something that irritates me to be honest.

Okiegal Says:

@Hippy Chic

I left out Vika and Maria…thanks for pointing that out. I guess I get a little tired of some people getting on Rafa’s case about this continually. My definition of shenanigans is when a player beats his racquet to death! That is one thing our guy has never done…..thank goodness!

I try to be a fair minded fan, but I will take up for Rafa. Heck, I have taken up for Roger on several occasions when his own fans have got down on him.

Thanks for the response, I don’t get many. Have a good evening…..I will try to also…..raining ice here in Oklahoma, will be in for the nite. In the meantime…………

VAMOS RAFA!!!!

World No.1 Rafael Nadal proved why he held the top spot as he beat second-seeded Novak Djokovic at an exhibition tennis match here. The Spaniard defeated his Serbian rival in two sets, 6-4, 7-5, as part of a relaxed joke and humour-filled match watched by more than 12,000 spectators here Sunday, reports Xinhua.

moam Says:

Elite tennis has undergone some very interesting changes in terms of competition. Rather than merely imposing your strength against the opponents weakness, the dynamic is now about “pattern play.” Who can design and execute the pattern which will be most effective against his opponent.
