According to reports out of Great Britain, Andy Murray and longtime girlfriend Kim Sears are now engaged to be married.

No date or venue has been set as of yet, but the 27-year-old Murray will marry Sears. The two have been dating since a 2005 meeting at the US Open. Now 26, Sears is the daughter of tennis coach Nigel Sears.

Murray also announced that he has parted with coaches Dani Vallverdu and Jez Green. Andy has worked with Jez for seven years, and Dani for five years. Murray will remain with Amelie Mauresmo.

“We sat down at the end of the season and decided that a change would be best for all of us,” Murray said in a statement. “My off season training and Australian Open preparations have already begun and I am very excited for the new year. I thank Jez and Dani for all their hard work over the years and wish them the best for the future.”

Via a tweet, Murray was headed off to the Philippines for some vacation and some exhibition tennis with the IPTL.

After a lackluster start to 2014, Murray finished strong winning three titles down the stretch to end at a ranking of No. 6.

Murray’s engagement leaves only Rafael Nadal as the only “Big Four” member left to get hitched. Will it happen for Nadal in the coming year?

skeezer Says:

Hippy Chick Says:

Congrats too Andy and Kim,and all the best for the future, indeed shes gorgeous, hope off court happiness translates to on court success :))….

Hippy Chick Says:

Tennis players do indeed have stunning girlfriends and wives….

Humble Rafa Says:

Congrtulations, to Mr. Lady Forehand and his better looking gf.

So, honestly, I feel left out. Between appendix, knee and yet to happen accidents, Humble has no time for such things.

Okiegal Says:

Can’t blame Andrew…….She is absolutely gorgeous and dresses up his players box a bunch. Yeah, Andy, you don’t want to take the chance losing her, she is classy and a great support system. You done good!! Congrats to Kim and Andy!

RZ Says:

Congrats Andy! When is Kim going to give me hair styling tips? :-)

jane Says:

awww, those pictures are great. congrats to them.

Humble Rafa Says:

I see that some people have taken their begging cups and have gone to India to collect their money. Back back or not.

John Thompson Says:

Seeing that he has been with her since she was 16 or 17 and is going to marry her makes me think higher of Andy Murray. Good for him. Hopefully is a good girl.

Federer staying with Mirka since the 2000 Olympia is one reason I respect him. He could have had any woman but chose to stay with the woman who was with him before he became a top player and has a stable family life with 4 children.

sienna Says:

poor Rafael.
his relationship is only one not to blossem and grow.

Tony should have let rafi have some real R&R from time to time.

Roger is the class Says:

good. Murray needs mental stability.

Margot Says:

After what she’s been through, on the Murray roller-coaster, Kim deserves the biggest, whitest wedding the world, if that’s what she wants of course.
@RZ
At one Q and A Andy was asked about the gorgeousness of Kim’s hair, lol.

Margot Says:

@RZ
PS
Was that you?….;)

Giles Says:

Many congrats to you Andy and your fiancé.

Hippy Chick Says:

People comment on how gorgeous Kim is and i agree, however our Andy also cleans up pretty well, gone is the gangly geeky teenager we first saw when he came onto the ATP tour, now we have a mature young man looking smart, handsome and sophisticated….

Hippy Chick Says:

I only hope they dont get sucked into the celebrity kitsch root of selling the pictures to Hello or OK magazine….

jane Says:

eh, personally i see nothing wrong with it, especially if celebs use the money for charity. a lot of people want to see photos of famous peoples’ weddings, which results in all sorts of paparazzi swarming them. it seems as though some celebs try to get around that by giving one publication access to take photos, and then leave it at that.

Okiegal Says:

@Sienna 11:57

Poor Rafa???? There is an interview with Rafa title “A year Without Respite” …….He gets into his personal life between him and his girlfriend, their careers and so forth. You probably could Google it and get some insight on “poor” Rafa and his love life……or not…….whatever……

Giles Says:

@Okie. You do know that poor Sienna is a Rafa groupie? Lol

Hippy Chick Says:

Sienna You know for someone that doesnt supposedly like a player they sure as hell spend alot of time and nervous energy pontificating about them and their love lives,i cant see the point myself, wouldnt it be more counter productive to talk about someone you do like instead,my late mother used to say if you cant say anything nice, sometimes its better not to speak….

Hippy Chick Says:

Jane fair enough,i just dont choose to fawn over everything they do in their private lives, and if they give the money to charity so what so do alot of people? sorry but thats just me no offence….

Hippy Chick Says:

Rafa and Maria are in a long term happy commited relationship, he wants marriage and kids but both are focused for now on their own perspective careers, many of the Nadal men didnt get married till in their 30s,as Okiegal says for those interested should google the interview,or not whatever?….

Hippy Chick Says:

Some people live their lives through rich and famous people, not only watching them in their everyday jobs, playing tennis, football,in films whatever, and while i do that,i dont spend my life lying in wait all the time for the next big happening in their lives,id think of myself very sad if i did,and id also think it would be time to get a life of my own, probably the reason i dont understand why Skeezer makes an issue of fans not blogging at times, when surely the reason for that is people are leading real lives too,and not just virtual ones where you chat to people your unlikely to ever meet….

Margot Says:

@Hippy
Andy and Kim selling their wedding pics to the glossy mags is about as likely as…..me having a holiday on the moon…..;)

Hippy Chick Says:

Margot lol,or me making love to Hugh Jackman(i wish),seriously though i hope not,i much prefer the tennis headlines that they make,as opposed to tabloid headlines, but thats just me,everyones perogative ;))….

Okiegal Says:

Chick, Andy does clean up nicely……you are right, gone are his gangly days. I do like Andy’s hair in the shorter style. Andy has grown on me so much through the years……still say the best on/off court interviews come from Andy. Very smooth and articulate!!

For everyone who celebrates Thanksgiving, HAPPY TURKEY DAY…..My kitchen is smelling of wonderful spices coz of the New Ground pie I’ve got in the oven!! Yummy……

Hippy Chick Says:

Okiegal thanks for the feedback,Andy is a handsome guy IMO,anyway enjoy your thankgiving its not something we celebrate here in Blighty, but i am indeed jealous as the food sounds delishious,i should pop over to Oklahoma for tea,ill be there about tea time tomorrow, save me some, have a lovely day lol :))….

sienna Says:

catweazel is handsome??

the nadalclan is probably the most touchiest of all fanbase groupes.
they are obsessed close to borderline

jane Says:

i’m not sure if he collaborated with hello mag, but jamie murray’s wedding was featured in it, with the limo, wedding pic, location. this sort of thing is inevitable. they’re celebrities. many people are enamoured with celebs. one way of them taking control of that is by limiting who can cover the event and even using that money for a good cause.

of course not all people do – or should – spend their days ogling celebs, but alas, we are a heavily image-based culture, and with the advent of social media and the internet, it simply means more publications than ever before, and thus more paparazzi than ever before, and thus more celeb coverage than ever before.

jane Says:

i wonder if we’ll get a thread on the ipl event? 3 of the tradition “big 4) are participating (including andy – see giles’ tweet/link) as well as serena, woz, and a number of past greats, like sampras, agassi, goran, etc. it’ll be interesting to see how it plays out.

Hippy Chick Says:

Sienna this threads about Murray, yet you were the first one to mention Nadal,i challenge you to send in a post without mentioning the name Nadal….

Hippy Chick Says:

And looks are a matter of ones own personal preferance, whats good looking to one aint necassarily to another and vice versa, and ive seen pictures of Andy in a suit, and he looks handsome,no need for the name calling though….

Hippy Chick Says:

Jane personally im more interested in what they do on court, rather than what happens in their private lives, but each to their own….

Hippy Chick Says:

Rafas not playing the ITF,but i still hope we get a thread on it too,i cant wait to see all the players past and present taking it to the courts together again….

Brando GOAT Poster Says:

@the DA (response to the post on other thread):

Apologies about the lateness of my response.

Great post and I appreciate your balanced views but for me I have to disagree and here’s why:

Right from the outset I completely disagreed with the Mauresmo appointment since for me personally I just cannot see that combination being the right fit.

With the Lendl appointment- it’s so easy to claim now but genuinely- I instantly could see that appointment working since even though Ivan had zero coaching experience and was many a year long departed from the tour I could see that he possessed the answers to the problems Andy was suffering from at the time.

And the success was almost instant: Andy going down fighting in AO 12 with a 5 set loss to Novak at his peak/best career period.

Here though- I am sorry to say- I just do not see it working out at all: from the outset initially, and for me, the dismal showing that followed.

1. What does Amelie Mauresomo bring to the table?

What does she offer that can improve Andy Murray as a tennis player at this stage in his career. I cannot think of anything of note that’s significant enough for me to be convinced of this appointment.

Edberg? Makes sense see he can improve Fed’s net game, make him more attacking at this stage of his career which is what Fed needs.

Becker? Still not sure about him but he can offer some good input on serving, net game etc. There is some good value there and even at his worst: at least he’s not a bore!

But what does Mauresmo bring to the table? For me personally: not much.

2. Can she address the key weaknesses Andy is suffering from?

Do I feel Amelie has the answers to address Andy’s serving issues especially on 2nd serve? No.

Do i feel Amelie is the strong, tough character who can help Andy’s mental frailty of the present and elevate it to a higher level? No. Not at all.

Amelie was known as bit of choker in her time.

I just do not see her being able to address these major ailments in Andy’s game.

3. Will she provide Andy with the correct tactics?

There’s a old, time tested, well worn saying:

If ain’t broke- then don’t be dumb enough to try fixing it!

Andy’s great struggle was to win a Grand Slam. Lendl helped him achieve his goal of winning it but also to him being 2/3 for Slam wins in Slam entered during a career peak pitch.

How? Simple:

Hit the FH aggressively with meaning, dominate the baseline by imposing a physical game that even had Djokovic running to the net a insane amount of time for him since it was a tough, tough time hanging with Muzza at the back of the court.

Add in a consistent serve, one which had variation / tactical nous even on 2nd serve and a mean, tough no tantrum aggressive demeanour on court and :

voila- you have a slam winner!

Why on earth is he not replicating this mode of playing that clearly is what works for him. It’s what brought him success: so stick with it!

This nonsensical talk of wanting to mix it more, venture far more often to the net in a era where serve and volleyers are not slam winners and all that Andy seems to achieve is bamboozling himself not the opponent since he does not know what on earth he’s doing!

I’m sorry but:

Sure he’s got great touch and variety, but ultimately his strength, forte is baseline tennis and that’s what he needs to stick at.

Quite clearly being passive, playing beta tennis did not work for him for many a year on the baseline until Ivan gave him the winning formula.

And he needs to return to that since it’s only thing that works for him.

Ultimately:

I would love to be positive about this, and I can recognize how Andy has shown character to make this call but at the end of the day he’s in his prime phase in his career: every decision he makes has to be correct in order to maximize his chance of making the most of his talent.

For me- sadly- I genuinely think he’s fluffed it with this appointment. Amelie does not seem to have the goods IMHO to be able to address the weaknesses in Andy’s game and I also get the feeling that:

Andy is being stubborn and he wants to prove everyone wrong with how a female coach can work in the men’s game. That’s all great and good, but if you seemingly look like you are regressing, with the field improving greatly (the competition wait’s for no one. Period) then all you end up looking like is:

A foolish martyr.

All that said:

I wish him nothing but the best, hope he proves me wrong. I think the first 4 months next year will be extremely crucial. In his AO, Acapulco, IW and Miami schedule he has to improve greatly- meaning challenge for the titles strongly- otherwise I fear that he’s going to continue regressing under this partnership with Amelie.

He’s had 1 prime year written off in effect. He just cannot afford 2. My £0.03.

Okiegal Says:

@Chick……tea time it is! I knew you probably didn’t celebrate Thanksgiving since the reason for it here began with the Pilgrims and Natve Americans having a meal together. But every day could be a day of giving thanks for all we do have…..some have more than others, but being happy with what you have is the most important thing.

Okiegal Says:

@Giles……I don’t know what poor Sienna is, other than as Chick stated……obsessed and as you stated a Nadal groupie!! That is all she wants to talk about is Rafa…..but great subject matter as far as I’m concerned. We’re a touchy fan base?? Yeah, right!!

Hippy Chick Says:

Okiegal true but im all for giving thanks and been appreciative for what you have,i have a roof over my head, good friends,a lovely husband, and a great job,and thats always been enough for me,i dont see the need for too much meterial stuff,i have alot of respect for the Pilgrims and that Native American tradition, and as a Pagan i always try to tread lightly on the earth,by only taking what i need….

Okiegal Says:

I don’t think the lady coach is what Andy needs either. Andy has got to get it together, but I don’t believe she’s the answer. I haven’t seen anything in his game that shows any improvement, not like we saw when Ivan came on the scene. When Andy’s mental attitude on court changed, that’s when Andy’s game changed. He just had a focus about him that I don’t see now……imo…..I think Ivan helped his head as much as anything.

Giles Says:

Wrong move getting rid of Dani and Jezz Green. Just my 2 cents.

sienna Says:

6-0 6-1 was a lady boy at O2?

Polo Says:

sienna, he was in the final match at O2.

Hippy Chick Says:

IMO The back injury and Lendels departure didnt do Murray any favours,he used to match up well with Novak, and im saying Novak as they have made quite a few times this year,he hasnt won a set since winning Wimbledon,as much as i hate to say it,its becoming as one sided as the Maria/Serena rivalry….

Hippy Chick Says:

Polo i believe Sienna was refering to Amelie….

Polo Says:

Oops, thank you for the correction, Hippy Chic. I failed to notice the sexist tone in Sienna’s comment.

tennismonger Says:

Well, that does it…

Look for Nadal to take the calendar slam in 2015 ;-)

Margot Says:

You folk are forgetting Amelie helped one of the unlikeliest players ever to lift the Wimbledon trophy….
So:
1) Andy’s had a rough 15 months.
2) Once a back problem, always a back problem, ask Fed.
3) Tensions in the team impacted on Andy’s performance at the WTF. Remember similar when Corretja was on board.
In which case:
1) Am glad Jez has gone. Andy doesn’t need that “iron man” regime any more. Have even read those famous ice baths are actually bad for you.
2) Dani’s been around years. Not sure, as the DA said, he can contribute much more. eg Andy’s 2nd serve is still awful and am really hoping new practise partner has some useful advice.
3)Andy can’t run round the baseline for ever. Just possible, like Fed, he’s trying to prolong his career. Just possible Amelie can help.
4) Obviously the formalising of his relationship with Kim, signifies a mental change .
He’s tweeted something along the lines that life is unpredictable and change is inevitable.
Good luck, Andy!

Colin Says:

I’m not about to get embroiled in the discussion of Andy’s problems with his game; I’ll just cross my fingers.

One thing I do hope is that for the wedding, Kim leaves her hair on display, and doesn’t cram it into something like that silly little hat she wore when they went to the Palace.

Hippy Chick Says:

Colin steady on,they have only just got engaged lol, anyway Kim has gorgeous hair which should be down i agree,im really jealous as mines falling out eek….

Hippy Chick Says:

Its a nice event, and a chance to see some of the past greats of the game playing again, the players can practice new teqniques for next year without the pressure of the tour, they can also earn some great money,i very much doubt they will be knocking themselves out for the sake of whats basically an exho…

Gee Says:

Andy has many things to worry about. No offense to fedal fans but his bad running after surgery was worse than federer’s exaggerated back injuries & nadal’s suspicious back damage during slam finals.
Andy’s pain issues & poor movement are worse than novak’s gluten allergy & injuries in 2011.
Novak & most improved top 15 players of 2011-4 were good enough to cause fedal pain, but fedal love to use the 2006-2010 years as proof that they played the most physically exerting matches.

Alexandra Says:

Congrats to Andy and Kim. They seem to be a lovely couple.

RZ Says:

@Margot – LOL it wasn’t me but it’s an excellent question so I’m glad someone asked it. Of course we need to be asking Kim rather than sarcastic Andy.
