Juan Martin Del Potro Gets An Indian Wells Wildcard, But Will He Play?
Further indicating an imminent return, Juan Martin del Potro received a wildcard into next week’s Indian Wells Masters event. The Argentine hasn’t played since Sydney after undergoing a second wrist surgery in January.
Ranked No. 614, del Potro missed almost all of 2014, so he could have entered Indian Wells via an injury protection. However, a wildcard and the fact he and Marin Cilic are on the doubles list, is no guarantee he will turn up in California.
Earlier this week he made it clear he wanted to return this month.
Other main draw wild cards awarded by the tournament, which begins 10 March, include Tim Smyczek, Ryan Harrison, Denis Kudla and Austin Krajicek.
Women’s wildcards went to Nicole Gibbs, Taylor Townsend, Grace Min, Louisa Chirico, Sachia Vickery, Bethanie Mattek-Sands and teenager Donna Vekic
