Second Serve Win %: Novak Djokovic Is The Best In The World And The Best In This Category [Stats]
In our look at the ATP Matchfacts at the two-month mark of the 2015 tennis season, we turn our attention to the best players at backing up their second serve. Often called the most important statistic in tennis, second serve points won percentage usually holds correlation to the rankings, and the top of this leaderboard we find World No. 1 Novak Djokovic who is winning a tour-best 81% of his second serves.
Djokovic finished last year winning 56% and his career mark is 55%. So he’s on pace for his best year in that stat, but the clay season is still to come.
Big serving Milos Raonic is next but in a surprise Simone Bolelli is third. The Italian who just picked up his first career Top 10 win is having one of his better seasons, and statistically it shows.
Rafael Nadal, Ivo Karlovic and Stan Wawrinka are also among the leaders. But Roger rankes No. 19 at 54%, two points below his career average while Andy Murray is way down on the list at No. 40 winning 51%, one percentage point below his career norm.
So Federer and Murray need to pick up their second serve.
At the bottom, the last the four all have losing records in 2015.
