A day after John Isner and Feliciano Lopez combined for 65 aces in Queen’s (and two after Sabine Lisicki’s mark), Ivo Karlovic did them one better smashing 45 aces in a win over Tomas Berdych today in the Halle quarterfinals.

The 45 aces are the most ever hit in a 3-set match, it’s just the fifth time anyone has hit 40+ aces in a 3-set match.

“I’m extremely happy about the record,” said Karlovic. “Hitting aces helps a lot, you can avoid the volleys. I was surprised when I was told on court after the match how many aces I hit. I didn’t know it was that many. Hopefully I can continue like that in the semifinal.”

Karlovic will await the Roger Federer-Florian Mayer winner.

8 Comments for Ivo Karlovic Just Hit A 3-Set Record 45 Aces In a Win Over Tomas Berdych Today In Halle [Chart]

Humble Rafa Says:

This is one reason to get rid of the Lottery Ticket Season, otherwise known as the season for the cows.

An extra week after RG just gives these novices too much time in the sun.

Daniel Says:

Hope he had spent hos share in this match and doesn’t have many versus Fed tomorrow;-)

sienna Says:

I understand the stick Karlovic gets.
but as I try to reason with that stick I feel sorry for Ivo.

He is just trying his best to win matches.
It must be so hard for him to play these great players.
everybody in top 150-200 is in fact a better player. He just won a match against top 10 player with 45 aces.
that is 11 of 17 servicegames..
.

incredible.

Temple Says:

sienna, you are ignorant about tennis and should get a 2 year ban from writing. Karlovic has sweet touch at the net, soft hand and he would never get where he is, only with an one pony trick.

Tennis Vagabond Says:

Yes Temple, I remember Karlovic nearly knocking Rafa off at Indian Wells at the height of Rafa’s hard court powers, and he did it with amazing net play.
He certainly doesn’t have a top 20 baseline game or movement, but he’s more than a serve.

sienna Says:

LMAO

sienna Says:

if you can hit 45:aces hè needs no other trick.
I gave him praise for his mental state to win matches against better players.
that he can win is thanks to his as you call it one trick.

there are 150 better players then him but still he can beat a lot. and not because his sweat hands.

Wog Boy Says:

Somebody should mention Dr Ivo’s coach Petar Popovic (formerly Andrea Petkovic coach), when he took over Dr Ivo in 2014 he was around #80 spot, now he is top 30 player, believe it or not he improved his GS and net play and Dr Ivo is 36 years old player! BTW, Dr Ivo is the one of the nicest blokes on the tour.
