Following his 75, 64 win yesterday over Fernando Verdasco at Queen’s, Andy Murray was asked what shot he like to have from his fellow players, he said he’d take John Isner’s serve.

“Probably would be Isner’s serve, I think,” Murray said. “It makes the game a whole lot easier when you can serve like that. But, I mean, there is a bunch of guys that serve unbelievably well, but I think his first and second serve are ‑‑ probably that package is probably the best on the tour. Yeah, I would say that.”

Murray will play longtime mate Gilles Muller today in the quarterfinals. If Murray wins he could face Isner in the semifinals tomorrow.

“I have known him a long time,” Murray said. ‘We are not unbelievably close, but obviously I’ve spent quite a lot of time with Jamie and I watch a lot of Gilles’ matches through that. Obviously want him to do well. Yeah, he’s a very nice guy, quiet guy but good fun. Yeah, I mean, I have spent more time with him the last year than I have previously. But I have known him for a number of years now.”

The 3-time champion has the services of Jonas Bjorkman this week at the event.

“I have always said that with all of the new coaches I have worked with, I just give it a little bit of time, we will see, but I get on well with him,” Murray said. “He gets on very well with the team. He’s obviously very knowledgeable about the game, as well.”

Tennis Vagabond Says:

Always very interesting to hear players rate their peers shots. I would have guessed Raonic’s.

Humble Rafa Says:

I can understand why.

Mr. Lady Forehand shares the personality of a door knob with Mr. Taller. So that’s not needed.

Both have a shared vision of a weak forehand.

More shared traits: choking (exclusively reserved for big matches).

It’s you that’s the kn*b dude
Andy is starting to fond his grass feet, looking pretty sharp now…

calmdownplease Says:

find ;)

Margot Says:

Lol CDP Andy is certainly “fond” of grass now! It’s clear from HR’s comments he either a) watches no tennis at all or b) is stuck somewhere in 2006….or earlier. Probably thinks Sampras has a chance to win Wimbledon.

KatH Says:

Couldn’t watch set one of Andy v Gilles (read what Gilles coach/Andy’s friend advised him to do) – no problem with that – guy only doing his job – but saw the effect of insider-information) – …

2nd/3rd sets – absolutely stunning – Andy played at a level way beyond his previous mediocre appearances – believe he will at least get to the final (Queens) now. The exuberant support from Jonas was really super.

the DA Says:

@Margot – “he either a) watches no tennis at all or b) is stuck somewhere in 2006”

And his humor is stuck in the first grade. Clearly he hardly watches any tennis because he spends so much time trying to find some wit.

Hope you’re having a blast at Queens. I was very impressed with the way Andy handled himself yesterday. Muller was playing so well but he stayed positive and had great energy to turn the match around. Not least Andy hit 45 winners and only had 6 UFEs :O Those are pretty good stats.

Margot Says:

@ the DA
Did a visit summary on “Nick Kyrgios” thread, so wont repeat. But, yes was a “blast.”
