David Goffin has qualified for his first ATP Finals, taking the 7th berth. The Belgian qualified for the year-end event despite falling to Juliean Benneteau in Paris today, Goffin got in after Lucas Pouille fell to Jack Sock.

“I would have preferred to have qualified by winning my match and Lucas is a friend but I am still so happy to have qualified!” said Goffin who played at the event as an alternate last year. “It is every player’s dream to make the Finals and it is my first time there so I can’t wait to get to London!”

Goffin’s berth leaves just one spot left in London with Pablo Carreno Busta, Juan Martin del Potro and John Isner in the hunt.

Carreno Busta, who lost his Paris opener, is still in the lead but del Potro will overtake him for the final spot if he beats Isner in the quarterfinals tomorrow, but will clinch by reaching the finals. Isner will get the last spot if he wins the Paris title.

Sock and Roberto Bautista Agut also harbour outside chances but have to win the Paris event first and then have help.

RZ Says:

If DelPo passes PCB tomorrow by winning his match, how come he wouldn’t clinch his spot unless he makes the final? Is this because Stan technically is still in 7th place?

chofer Says:

I’m guessing it is because RBA has a chance winning the title? If Delpo’s losing the SFs. he won’t make it?

I’ve no idea. But this is the staff that wrote Lukas Pouille, so everything’s possible!!

Daniel Says:

Yeah chofer. If RBA wins today DelPo will need to reach finals to secure his spot beyond doubt. Or still reaches semis and Agut doesn’t win the title.

If Cilic wins, DelPo just needs to eliminate Isner and he qualifies, because not even Sock winning the title can catch DelPo’s.

Daniel Says:

Cheering for Cilic now!

chofer Says:

Daniel

Me, too!

So far, I’ve found two annoying fans of Fedal here. One on either side of the pond.

If I were them, I’ll relax a little. They both won practically everything there is to win. Playing on borrowed time, after 30s…

They’re not happy!! Unless the other suffers… (self-delusional to the max)

I just don’t get it. I`ll never get it.

C’mon JMDP save France from the cap invasion!

And give back the Statue of Liberty, too!:))

Rafa is out

FedExpress Says:

The YE No 1 is out.

Maybe he wont play the WTF after all.

the_mind_reels Says:

Wow. What an unfortunate way for Nadal to finish Paris (and maybe his season?) this year. I hope it’s nothing too serious for him.

Maybe now Guy Forget will keep his mouth shut until his tournament is over before ripping top players for not competing when they don’t feel it’s best for their health. I’m sure there are legions of Nadal fans who bought tickets for this weekend who are heartbroken that their guy won’t be competing. My guess is that Nadal knew this might happen given his absence from Basel, but all he had to do was win a single match to lock up the ranking.

Roman Says:

What happened to Nadal? Did he dropout beacuse of his knees?

Daniel Says:

Well, at least Nadal got his QF or better streak in Paris. But him winning there seems is not gonna happen. He has a few years still, but usually how he maximizes his season until USO, hard to see him winning Shangai or Paris, same as MC and Rome eluded Federer.

Now big question mark for WTF, he has 10 days before first match on Sunday or Monday in WTF, but as he skipped Basel and only played 2 matches in Paris, looks like his knees is bothering.

Missed first set which Isner took, Delpo will have to do it in 3 if he wants to qualify.

Daniel Says:

DelPo is returning better Isner seve but making silly misses. Hope he can force the breaker win and close it in three.

Daniel Says:

DF Isner, to give the breaker to DelPo.

Now DelPo will serve first third set. Hope he closes it. Huge cache to reach finals and title.

Margot Says:

Nooooo, Cap Man has breached the city walls. We need reinforcements, calling Dragon Queen….
JMDP got himself injured and Cap Man called the trainer on, one thing after another.
chofer: JMDP aimed a ball straight at Cap Man’s cap. I think he must read tennis.

Margot Says:

Erratum: “must read tennisx” even,
