No. 81 Nikoloz Basilashvili beat two-time Hamburg titlist Leonardo Mayer 6-4, 0-6, 7-5 on Sunday to become the first Georgian to win an ATP title.
ADHEREL
“I’m extremely tired, I played seven matches. I literally gave, in every match, my heart,” Basilashvili said afterwards. “I’m pretty sure every player worked so hard for this, but it’s an unbelievable moment for me.”

Basilashvili improved to 2-2 in career finals, also winning in Hamburg this year.

Basilashvili is the fourth qualifier to win on the ATP this season, joining Daniil Medvedev (Sydney), Mirza Basic (Sofia) and Roberto Carballes Baena (Quito).

Mayer fell to 2-3 in career finals and 0-2 this year.

FedExpress Says:

The same guy who lost 0-6 1-6 0-6 to Nadal last year. Wow.

SG1 Says:

Watched some of the match with him and Mayer. Interesting player. Really goes all out on the forehand. When it’s working, he seems quite formidable. Not sure of his height. He seems to be about 5’10” but he gets a lot of pop out of his game nonetheless. Nice story. First ATP title for a Georgian. Good on him.

SG1 Says:

…he’s 6′-1″ tall. He looks shorter on TV.
