Djokovic, Osaka, Zverev v Anderson Headline Opening Day At The US Open

Grand Slam tennis returns with a blockbuster line-up at the US Open!

Cincinnati stars Novak Djokovic and Naomi Osaka headline a night of former champions. Djokovic, who is now 23-0 on the season after his second Cincinnati title, battles Dusan Lajovic.

“Going on an unbeaten run so far this year obviously brings even more confidence each match,” said Djokovic. “I’m just trying to enjoy it and embrace the process. How long that journey is going to last and what kind of legacy I’m going to leave behind, that’s on somebody else to really judge and evaluate. But I’m trying to do my best.”

Osaka will test her gimpy left hamstring against Misaki Doi.

In the afternoon, arguably the match of the men’s first round pits Alexander Zverev against former finalist Kevin Anderson on Ashe. The young German is a flawless 5-0 against Anderson.

Karolina Pliskova opens on Ashe against Anhelina Kalinina.

Denis Shapovalov is expected to shine on Armstrong against American youngster Sebastian Korda, son of Australian Open champion Petr.

John Isner takes on countryman Steve Johnson also on the along with past champion Angelique Kerber and teen sensation Coco Gauff who faces former semifinalist Anastasija Sevastova.

On Court 17, Stefanos Tsitsipas and Petra Kvitova will be in action plus two good matches between Anett Kontaveit and Danielle Collins and Reilly Opelka meets David Goffin.
