Rublev Stays Hot, Extends Run Winning Rotterdam Title Over Fucsovics
Andrey Rublev continued to make his case he belongs among the best in tennis. The 23-year-old won his 20th match at the ATP 500 level taking down Martin Fucsovics 7-6(4), 6-4 to win the indoor title in Rotterdam, his 8th career crown.
“I feel happy. It has been a really great week,” said Rublev. “It has been a great past year and a half. We will see if I can keep going, if I can keep this level of competing being a Top 10.”
The red-hot Rublev has now won his last seven finals dropping just one set during that stretch. Today, the Russian never dropped serve and he broke the big Hungarian to the second after taking a close breaker.
“It was a tough match, especially in the first set. Was really mental,” said Rublev. “It was so, so close. Both of us had a lot of chances. First game, he had a lot of chances then, straight away, I had a lot of chances. We were so close all the set. Even in the tie-break, it was so close until 4/3.”
Fucsovics, who had qualified, was seeking his second career title. He drops to 1-15 career against Top 10 players.
“It was a very positive week for me. I played unbelievable,” Fucsovics said. “I came from qualifying. I played a lot of matches.
“I improved my game, so that is most important for me.”
